Cooking Tips
Today’s tip comes from my friend Sharon Duncan. It’s an elegant and practical way to serve a salad. Sharon says she likes to serve salads laid flat, rather than in a bowl, because it allows her guests to easily fill their plate with all the tasty components.
Greg and I thoroughly enjoyed this salad last weekend as well as a tour of Summer Hawk Ranch which includes a menagerie of animals. Located in the foothills of the Sierras, it has an impressive view of the San Joaquin Valley and, on clear nites, the coastal mountains.
As you w
alk through Summer Hawk Ranch you will discover a variety of animals including emus, horses, ostriches, a pet rattle snake and peacocks. Even four horned goats and miniature pigs. I held the honor of being the first guest to be bitten by a miniature pig and an emu on the same evening! Neither bite hurt and I tell myself they were more of a love nudge. Right.
I was also very impressed with Sharon’s large garden that includes lettuce, tomatoes, fruit trees and giant squash. Walking through the garden we picked tomatoes for Sharon’s next salad.
While the Ranch and their home is impressive, the food and company were even more so. We had a wonderful time with friends, food and wine…always a great combination!
